🎉 Good News: Savannah Bananas Top-Star Johnny Bench Welcomes New Baby Today After Being Away on Tour
Savannah, GA — In a heartwarming twist that adds a new layer of joy to an already sensational season, Savannah Bananas top-star Johnny Bench welcomed a brand-new addition to his family today — a beautiful baby born early this morning. After weeks on the road dazzling crowds with the Bananas’ signature mix of baseball and showmanship, Bench returned home just in time to witness the birth.
The former MLB legend, now turned viral sensation with the Bananas, has found new life in his post-retirement years. Bench, who joined the Savannah Bananas in a surprise move earlier this year as a guest player and mentor, has since become one of the fan-favorite attractions on the team — dazzling not just with his baseball IQ but with his playful spirit and endless charisma. But today, it’s not his performance on the field making headlines — it’s what happened off of it.
According to family sources, Bench’s partner went into labor late last night. He had just wrapped up a show-stopping performance in front of a sold-out crowd in Birmingham, Alabama, where he participated in a choreographed double play while doing the moonwalk. The moment the game ended, Bench received the call and caught the first flight back to Savannah.
“He made it just in time,” said a team spokesperson. “He was still in his Bananas warm-up pants when the baby arrived.”
The baby — a healthy 7 pounds, 4 ounces — was born at 6:12 a.m. at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. Both mother and child are doing well, and Johnny Bench was seen leaving the hospital this morning with an enormous grin and an even bigger banana-print blanket in hand.
When asked about the birth, Bench was overjoyed. “It’s the greatest feeling in the world. Baseball’s always been a love of mine, but nothing compares to this,” he told reporters. “I may have caught Hall of Famers and thrown guys out at second, but catching my baby’s first breath? That’s a real miracle.”
The Savannah Bananas celebrated the news with a surprise announcement during their game tonight, complete with a “baby banana” dance tribute by the team’s in-house performers. Fans held up signs reading “Congrats, Johnny!” and “Welcome to the Banana Bunch, Baby Bench!”
Team owner Jesse Cole also commented: “Johnny is not just a legend in the game — he’s part of our family. This is a special moment for him, and for all of us. We couldn’t be happier.”
Though Bench is expected to take a brief leave from the tour to be with his family, the team has already teased a “Baby Banana Day” coming soon — complete with themed merch and maybe even an on-field stroller race.
From golden gloves to golden bottles, Johnny Bench’s legacy just got a whole lot cuter.
