After weeks on the road dazzling crowds with the Bananas’ signature mix of baseball and showmanship, Bench returned home just in time to witness the birth.

 

The former MLB legend, now turned viral sensation with the Bananas, has found new life in his post-retirement years. Bench, who joined the Savannah Bananas in a surprise move earlier this year as a guest player and mentor, has since become one of the fan-favorite attractions on the team — dazzling not just with his baseball IQ but with his playful spirit and endless charisma. According to family sources, Bench’s partner went into labor late last night. He had just wrapped up a show-stopping performance in front of a sold-out crowd in Birmingham, Alabama, where he participated in a choreographed double play while doing the moonwalk. The moment the game ended, Bench received the call and caught the first flight back to Savannah.

 

“He made it just in time,” said a team spokesperson. “He was still in his Bananas warm-up pants when the baby arrived.”

 

The baby — a healthy 7 pounds, 4 ounces — was born at 6:12 a.m. at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. Both mother and child are doing well, and Johnny Bench was seen leaving the hospital this morning with an enormous grin and an even bigger banana-print blanket in hand.
