Interesting new details have emerged about the man running the Daly Cherry-Evans situation behind the scenes, and his key links to the Sydney Roosters. Cherry-Evans’ manager Joe Wehbe also counts James Tedesco, Reece Robson and Herbie Farnworth as his clients, and has already delivered Robson to the Roosters from the Cowboys for 2026.
Wehbe has Roosters players Tedesco and Billy Smith in his stable, and the popular theory is he might have already secured Cherry-Evans a lucrative move to the Bondi glamour club for next season. The other strong possibility is DCE will look to move back home to Queensland, and the Dolphins and Titans would be favourites to land him in that scenario.
Cherry-Evans still has a strong bond with Titans coach Des Hasler after they won a premiership together during many seasons at Manly. Hasler was even in attendance at Cherry-Evans’ wedding in the off-season, while Many coach Anthony Seibold wasn’t.

And Wehbe knows a thing or two about working with Queensland clubs. Dubbed the “football whisperer” for his work as a mind coach with a number of top athletes, Wehbe was brought in to work with the Broncos by Wayne Bennett in 2016.
Wehbe helped turn the Brisbane club around when they were struggling defensively, and Bennett was reportedly impressed by his work. While Wehbe has undeniable links to the Roosters, he also has Dolphins player Farnworth in his stable.
Wehbe helped negotiate Farnworth’s deal when he left the Broncos to join the Dolphins at the end of 2023. “There are a lot of benefits that come from working with Joe,” Farnworth said previously. “One of those is that he is very good mentally and he knows how your brain works.
Joe Wehbe and Isaac Moses’ falling out
An interesting sub-plot with Wehbe is his recent falling out with fellow player agent Isaac Moses. Wehbe and Moses used to be business partners, until Wehbe sued Moses over a financial dispute.
There’s a growing belief that Moses wields too much influence at Manly, and manages a number of players as well as coach Seibold. If Wehbe and Moses don’t get along, could Wehbe have convinced Cherry-Evans that he needed to get out of that environment?
Cherry-Evans and Manly CEO Tony Mestrov both insist there’s no animosity or ill-feeling between the champion halfback and the club. But the relationship is clearly rocky, and many believe Cherry-Evans felt disrespected when Manly didn’t make him a formal offer.
