For British rocker YUNGBLUD (born Dominic Richard Harrison), love has always been an open subject in his music — raw, emotional, and unfiltered. But in a rare personal reflection, he shared a deeply human side of his journey with relationships, family expectations, and the surprising role his mother played in helping him move forward after heartbreak.

 

“When my relationship with Jesse Jo Stark ended, I was so sad,” he admitted. “I told my mum I didn’t want any relationship again. I felt like giving up on love altogether.”

 

Like any caring parent, his mother wanted to see him happy again. She suggested he meet the daughter of one of her close friends, a woman from the United States. While the idea was well-intentioned, YUNGBLUD confessed he wasn’t comfortable with it.

 

“I believe love doesn’t have anything to do with nationality,” he explained. “It can come from anywhere. So I didn’t like the idea of being matched just because of where someone was from.”

 

Not long after, Jesse Jo Stark came back into the picture for a visit. YUNGBLUD recalled being nervous about how his mother might react, knowing she wasn’t the match she had in mind. To his surprise, the meeting went better than he could have ever expected.

 

“I left them together while I went to the gym,” he said. “When I came back, I was shocked to see them talking like they already knew each other. They were laughing, connecting, and it made me feel so relieved.”

 

He chuckled as he remembered wanting a bit of private time with Jesse. “She was so busy with my mum that I had to tell my mum in deep language that I wanted some privacy,” he laughed. “She understood and told Jesse she was going to the supermarket with my son, just to give us space.”
